trailer world issue Two 2010

4      Issue Two 2010 Panorama ‘Busch-Hungária’ foundry joins the BPW Group  BPW and the foundry M. Busch which belongs to the BWP Group have proceeded with a complete takeover of the spheroidal graph- ite foundry run hitherto as a joint venture with the Hungarian com- pany Rába. The company in Györ in the North West of the company is only approx. 100 km from ‘BPW-Hungária’ in Szombathely. A workforce of 300 employees produces amongst other things wheel hubs, brake callipers and axle housings on a production site covering around 30,000 m². Alongside BPW and Rába, the customer base also includes other companies in the car and HGV industry. For the BPW Group, the takeover of ‘Busch-Hungária’ brings con- siderable progress in safeguard- ing production capability and delivery reliability for spheroi- dal graphite products. In future, ‘Busch-Hungária’ will therefore become an important support facility within the BPW Group. Logistics world 2030  “The dynamic economic de- velopment of the emerging countries will bring about fun- damentally changed logistics structures.” This is the conclu- sion reached by the interna- tional series of studies “Trans- portation & Logistics 2030” by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Supply Chain Manage- ment Institute (SMI) of the EBS Business School. This was part of a presentation entitled “Emerging Markets - New hubs, new spokes, new industry lead- ers?” which was presented at the BVL Logistics Congress. As far as the logistics global players are concerned, these changes entail both chances and risks, as access to the new mar- kets is often highly restricted and they will also be confront- ed with new and in some cases locally specialized competitors. The study series “Transporta- tion & Logistics 2030” is avail- able free of charge at http://www.pwc.com/transport  Following a difficult year in 2009, the Automechanika 2010 as the world’s largest trade-fair for the automotive aftermarket of- fered BPW an outstanding opportunity to show presence and cultivate contacts in new target markets. With around 155,000 visitors from 180 countries, the trade-fair set a new record for the visiting countries. BPW thus made new contacts in countries such as Azerbaijan, Turk- menistan and Uzbekistan. “Together with general aftermarket topics, the talks also focused on our proprietary ECO Disc brake for trailers. The swift, successful launch of this product received a most positive echo from our customers”, says Stefan Oelhafen, Aftermarket Manager at BPW. Automechanika Recommendation: Yesterday’s Tomorrows  Author Tommy Laeng com- bines dream visions from the past with the fascinating il- lustrations of the graphic designer Klaus Bürgle (which have also been used as the basis for the il- lustrations in this trailer world) in a unique shared view (unfortu- nately only available in German. “Zukunftsträume von gestern, heute, übermorgen” can be purchased for €19.90 from LKIT Verlag, ISBN: 978-3-643-10675-9 As an English alternative, we recommend: “Yesterday’s Tommorows: Past Visions of the American Future” by Joseph J Corn and Brian Horrigan, The Johns Hopkins University Press which can be purchased for € 25,99 through Amazon.com amongst others.
